Dingo reviews #2: The Sims 4 (Base game)

Here’s my Sims 4 review (finally) yes, the review layout is pinched from one of my very early blog posts 😛

Audio: The music in this game is a little repetitive if you’ve been playing for a fair while. But there are some really nice music tracks in the current selection, with hopefully more added in in later expansion packs. At the time of writing, the reviewer didn’t check if there was the ability to add custom music.
total: 6.5 (Good)
Graphics: Graphics are a substantial improvement over Sims 3, and supports pretty high resolutions, doesn’t look blurry.

Supports a good range of graphics cards, unlike Sims 3.

total: 8.5 (Very Good)
Gameplay: Like the other entries in the series, The gameplay in Sims 4 is that of a Life Simulator and is pretty free form in what you can do, there is no “end goal” and you can play however long or little you like.

As of the writing of this review, Sims 4 features far too many loading screens than is sane (this reviewer still states that NO PC game should have a loading screen of any kind)

There are also too many things missing between Sims 3 and this entry in the series, some of which were cut due to design decisions.

total: 5 (Average)
Value: Like the other games in the series, Assuming that one has an endless amount of cash to splurge, it can be a game with lots of content, there are user made free creations though, and as with any game that supports any degree of modding there’s always the advantages that come with that (like fixing bugs, removing undesired things, etc)

Note that at this time Sims 4 has very little content, much less than the previous sims games and as suck it is rated much lower than the previous.

total: 5 (Average)
OVERALL RATING: 6.25 (Above Average)
Difficulty: Pretty Easy to Just right
Learning Curve: 3 or more hours
Play Time: 30 hours total

Dingo reviews #1: The Sims 3 (Base game)

Here’s my review of The Sims 3, Somewhat late, but better late then never.

Audio: The music in this game contains some really nice music tracks in the base selection, along with some decent sound effects. Better ones were added in in later expansion packs, and the ability to add in custom music was pretty neat.
total: 7.5 (Good)
Graphics:
total: 8.5 (Very Good)
Gameplay:

The Gameplay in the sims series is that of a Life Simulator and is pretty free form in what you can do, there is no "end goal" and you can play however long or little you like.

In saying that, its quite addictive and once started, could leave someone playing through the night if they are not careful, and have enough store or expansion content to keep it fresh.

Value: Assuming one has an endless amount of cash to splurge, it can be a game with lots of content, there are user made free creations though, and as with any game that supports modding there’s always the advantages that come with that (like fixing bugs, removing undesired things, etc)

A Dingoes thoughts, September edition

I was intending to post a blog entry last month, but personal situations prevented me from doing so. Now that I can I will do another one of my thought posts, from the inside of my head…

Video gaming

Very recently, I acquired a Playstation Vita, and a whole host of games, including Borderlands, the Persona series and the Danganronpa series… In addition to that I have managed to get my paws on The Sims 4 (If you wish to add me on EA’s awful Origin client, or on PSN: DingoWolfAU/dingowolfau is the person to add)

Please note that I will review Sims 4 momentarily in a separate blog post, once I feel up to the task of writing again (which isn’t right now)

TV and movies

Doctor Who and my 2 favourite anime’s have started up again with new series’, so I am watching them with great interest, especially to see how they progress. Loving Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor, he brings a certain maturity to Doctor Who, that it has lacked for a while, well, in my opinion, since David Tennant took up the role.

I got to seeing Guardians of the Galaxy in the cinema last month, and let me tell you it was amazing, funny and quite decent Sci-Fi. I liked Rocket, but that had nothing to do with being interested in Furry, Werewolves and anthros in general.

Life in general

Recently, my back problems have gotten worse to the point where I am in near-constant levels of pain (at 7/10) where they were previously only a 5 and ignorable for the most part, caused by a work injury and other factors. I am waiting for the results of an x-ray to determine, what, if anything further needs to be done.

I have decided to go on a diet and cut down on sugar, I will only drink water at lunches and at dinners (unless they’re special occasions)

A few things…

I don’t normally post this much content on my blog in a week, but this dingo has a thing or two to say, and indeed he will say them, time for the next in the current series of ‘Thoughts and Rants’ posts.

I’ve decided, after much deliberation, that I am definitely going to purchase a Playstation Vita, now that there’s at least 5 games I want (1 of which I already have in the PS Store, the others are cheap) and I can get it for as little as $188 (preowned)

The other 4 games I can get fairly cheaply. I should also consider the purchase of a memory card. BUT FIRST, I need to pay a few bills.

In other news, I am currently saving money for conventions and a new fursuit.

Also, I am currently having a recurrence of back problems and may have to cut back hours at work to something more manageable. It means that I will have less money, but I have to do something

March event/game/movie roundup.

Here’s yet another one of my purchase list blog posts, as we come to the end of march 2014… Been a fair while since I last posted anything to this blog.
Anyhoo…

Videos:
Futurama: Season 1 to 7
The Simpsons: Season 17 to 24
Angel: Season 2
Buffy: Season 1 to 7

Some of these videos were difficult to locate.

Games:
Final Fantasy XIV (pc)
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (ps3)
Tales of Symphonia HD (ps3)
Final Fantasy X HD (ps3)

I still need to finish Final Fantasy XIII… I seem to buy more games than I actually finish :/ I get bored very easy these days and have no idea why.

In other news, work gas picked up again, and I have been in this job now for just about 5 years. Would like a change, but there aren’t any suitable jobs to switch to in my area, and I can’t drive due to my back problems.

I’ll be helping out with more furry events this year in an attempt to get back into the community after being a tad reclusive.

Supanova 2013 (Perth) and other things

Time for another blog post, this time about my recent trip to Supanova 2013, on Saturday 29th June.

Like any other day, it started in the Dingo’s den, from there the short trip to Claremont began. Once at Claremont I paid for my ticket ($30 from memory) and entered. The place was packed, and the first thing that I did was look for a place that was selling Doctor Who books, and/or Doctor who related merchandise, which was hard considering all the people who were around. After scoping that out, I went and bought some more anime, from the Madman stall, one of which I had been meaning to buy for a long time.

Also bought a pair of fox ears and a scarf resembling the one worn by Tom Baker during his run as the doctor.

Spotted a few friends and hung out for a bit, before returning into the crowd.

My Rants and Ravings – June Edition

It has been a fair while since I last posted one of these random rants and thought posts, they simply don’t mean that much to me anymore, or i post snippets on twitter (@AndyDingoWolf), but here’s another one… And this time, It’s purple.

Work related:
Work’s going well. Dropped back to casual work as it gives better pay, though the cost is security…

Going to take a holiday in July and another in January.

Non-work related:
Found out that one of my favourite artists will only be doing just one more album, due to the likes of all the youtube song parodies cutting into his market, and reduced income from CDs, etc. Not a happy wolingo.

I’ve entered into a new exclusive relationship, against my better judgement. Very early days, but I’m already very happy. That person knows who they are.

My holiday flights have been paid for, but I still need to pay for accomodation. Hoping to get a group booking underway though, to reduce overall costs.

Preordered Animal Crossing: New Leaf for 3DS. Looks cool. Inner wolf will be happy. Havent played on my 3DS in a fair while, same with my PSP Go.
